The Vale of Eways is isolated. Once part of The Marches – the violently contested border between Wales and the kingdom of Mercia – the valley is sparsely populated, with phone and internet signal requiring a least a 30-minute drive from where I captured this photograph.
Here, clouds form over the Llanthony Forest late in the day, with the deep hue of the evergreens contrasting with the purple moorland scrub above.
