The climb to the Storr is basically a right of passage for any walker visiting the Isle Of Skye. On an otherwise clear holiday, my wife and I decided to tackle it on the one day with fog. I’d heard about the felled woodland on the climb. At first, it’s a seemingly extreme act by local authorities, but it’s actually part of a process to replace “exotic trees” with something more fitting for the native environment.
I can see how some may find it a challenge to enjoy, and it was a stark sight, but it brought something to the climb. The wind was still, and a few visitors passed us by, voices distant in the thick air. It was almost apocalyptic, so naturally, I switched back to my black-and-white ways and had some fun capturing the desolation.
